Privacy Policy
A History of Us · the Early Modern Human Explorer · web app
Short version: nothing ever leaves your browser — and unlike many apps, this one makes no external network requests at all. It collects no data, requires no sign-in, and has no accounts, analytics, advertising or trackers of any kind.
What we collect
Nothing. The app does not collect, store, transmit, or sell any personal information, usage data, location, browsing history, or content. There are no analytics or advertising SDKs.
Network requests
None to any third party. Every map, dataset and library is bundled with the app and loaded from the same address you're already visiting. Once the page has loaded, it works fully offline. It never calls out to any external service.
Local storage
The only thing stored on your device is a single small flag in your browser's
localStorage (ahou_seen_v1) that records you've seen the one-time welcome,
so it isn't shown again. It contains no personal information, never leaves your device, and can be
cleared at any time by clearing your browser data.
Third parties
None. The visualization is rendered entirely on your device using a bundled, open-source library (globe.gl / three.js). No data is shared with anyone.
Data sources
The base map is Natural Earth (public domain). Prehistory, genetics and palaeogeography are simplified from published palaeoanthropology and archaeogenetics research and bundled with the app. All content is approximate and, for deep prehistory, often debated — see the in-app About & sources.
Children
The app is suitable for all ages and collects no data from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page.
